Guide Bridge, Ashton-Under-Lyne
This project was undertaken on behalf of the Canals & River Trust.
The aim was to provide access suitable for multiusers including cyclists, push chairs and users of limited mobility.
The access before the works commenced was a stepped access approached through a public house car park. The access was permissive and gated so could be closed by the public house at any time.
The ramp also provided a link from the canal to Guide Bridge railway station and other public transport routes – plus it improved the cycling infrastructure in Greater Manchester.
There was limited access to the Ashton Canal in that area, the new ramp was much needed to open up the Canal for the use of the general public.
